Mystery

by Dean Rerekura

Can you fathom the mysteries of God? Can you probe the limits of the Almighty? They are higher than the heavens above—what can you do? They are deeper than the depths below—what can you know? Their measure is longer than the earth and wider than the sea.

Job 11:7-9

I can easily switch off – especially when I’m not interested in what I’m hearing.
Just ask most of my High School Teachers.
I switch off when the stock market information comes in the news – it doesn’t interest me.
I switch if when they show the hot and cold fronts and the barometric charts in the weather report – I just want to know tomorrow’s temperature.
I switch off in the ads, they are intrusions to the show.

I switch off when I am hearing things I don’t care about.
Which is scary when I think about how often I ‘switch off’ about the things of God.
Because I do care about God, I really do.

I need to train my mind. I need to discipline my heart.
I need to appreciate the mystery of God, and stop being satisfied in what I already know.
To take notice of what God is showing me.
To listen hard to what God is saying.
To follow closer to His Word whilst walking in His world.
To love Him and my neighbour.
To notice and reflect (let me encourage you to journal, or blog, or just write things down somewhere).

And then reflect on the greatness of my Lord and Saviour.

Maybe I should also pay more attention to the weather report.

Can you fathom the mysteries of God? Can you probe the limits of the Almighty? They are higher than the heavens above—what can you do? They are deeper than the depths below—what can you know? Their measure is longer than the earth and wider than the sea.
