They were amazed at his teaching.
They were amazed at his authority.
They were amazed by his power.
I don’t know. I wasn’t there.
But I imagine Jesus’ speaking like the prophets of old, but instead of saying “Thus says the Lord”, he said “But I say unto you”.
And I imagine Jesus bringing peace to the minds of possessed people, not by casting out impure spirits in God’s name, but instead, they shook in HIS presence and they obeyed his commands. You know, as if he said “Flee, in MY name”.
They were amazed by him.
The old song “I stand amazed in the presence of Jesus the Nazarene…”
So I ask myself, as I ask you here, “What is less amazing about Jesus, that I/we are less amazed by him today?”
Surely not!
Maybe the people back then would be amazed at our lack of being amazed!
