The Darkest Hour – What Winston Churchill Teaches Us About Living In Hard Times.
The recent movie ‘The Darkest Hour’, tells of Winston Churchill and his rise to becoming Prime Minister of England and how he needed to turn the opinion of the Parliament of the day around from seeking a peace treaty with Adolf Hitler, and instead go to war.
Churchill basically had two speeches to change people’s opinions. One was a live radio address, the other was a speech before Parliament. In the process, he gained the support of King George and also (took a train) to listened to the words of the people.
In this, there are a few things that we can remember, especially as we enter into what might be hard times, dark hours and frustrating seasons, however they show up in your life.
We need to remember that we have an enemy who is not interested in anything other than the condemnation and corruption of our lives. His name is Satan and he is against God and against you.
We need to remember that we can’t compromise on the place where we stand. We cannot be standing with one foot in the camp of the enemy and the other foot on the Lords side. “You cannot reason with a tiger, when your head is in its mouth.”
We need to remember that we exist in war time and not in peace time as followers of Jesus. We are engaged in a spiritual battle, we need to put on our spiritual armour.
We need to remember that God has you in your place, with your influence, with your opportunities for a reason. You are God’s person ‘for such a time as this’.
Churchill took a ride on a train in order to hear he voice of the people. We also need to listen to the cries of those around us. We need to look at the lives of those around us. To really hear and see where the hope that is found in Christ alone can impact most.
We need to listen to the voices of the people. But most of all, we need to listen to the Word of God, whose message of love and welcome, whose promise of refuge and security still speaks today.
Churchill gained the support of the King in his ambition. Let’s remember that we already have the backing of the King of all kings in the mission we are on.
