Atonement

by Dean Rerekura

Once a year Aaron shall make atonement on its horns. This annual atonement must be made with the blood of the atoning sin offering for the generations to come. It is most holy to the LORD.

Exodus 30:10

Atonement is when sin (rebellion against God, rejection of God) is covered over and dealt with.
Atonement is only accomplished by a bloody sacrifice.
Atonement is where the holy and the sacrificial come together, to work together, to enact forgiveness, substitution, righteousness and transformation.
Atonement is what we all need, and only God can provide.

Jesus’ sacrificial death is where our sin is covered and dealt with.
Jesus’ death is where a Holy God and a sacrificial substitute combine.
Jesus’ cross is where blood is shed for the forgiveness of sin.
Jesus’ atonement is what we all need, and what God has provided.

Not once a year – but once for all.

Atonement (at – one – ment with Christ, in Christ, by Christ, for Christ).

Once a year Aaron shall make atonement on its horns. This annual atonement must be made with the blood of the atoning sin offering for the generations to come. It is most holy to the LORD. — Exodus 30:10
