Please read all of Matthew 27 because everything that happened points to this one thing.
The centurion would be aware of, not just of his death, but also the events leading up to his death.
The way he kept quiet at his trial.
The way he was treated in the courtyard.
The way the other prisoner was set free.
The way he was condemned to death.
He saw the abuse heaped in him when he was on he cross.
The words echoed in his ears “He saved others (that’s an amazing acknowledgment) but he can’t save himself”.
“My God – why have you forsaken me”.
The darkness, the earthquake, the temple curtain IMMEDIATELY torn in two.
Yes – surely he IS the Son of God.
When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, “Surely he was the Son of God!”
